DANISH DELIGHT

Christmas time is coming - what are you particularly looking forward to?

BEA FAGERHOLT: December can be as special and magical in the eyes of a child as it can be stressful for adults. But a little goes a long way, and I think it’s all about lowering expectations for yourself during this time of year. I love creating cozy mornings with a letter from our elf (Nisse in Danish), who moves into our house every December. Some mornings, the elf has brought small presents, and it’s always a delight to wake up and see what has happened overnight. We also light our candle, counting down to Christmas Eve. It’s a wonderful tradition during this dark and cold month.

Are there any typical Danish rituals around the festive season?

BEA FAGERHOLT: Definitely the Christmas lunches that fill up December. We dress up and enjoy a traditional Danish menu with herring and snaps.

You both live in Copenhagen - what should you definitely do when visiting the city during this time?

BEA FAGERHOLT: A traditional Christmas lunch at the old establishment Schønnemanns in Copenhagen, established in 1877 (reservation needed). Hot chocolate and a piece of layer cake at the historic patisserie La Glace is also a favorite, and maybe a walk through Tivoli Gardens afterwards. If you are in town on December 1st, make sure to witness the annual Christmas decoration reveal at Hotel d'Angleterre.

What's on your wish list for Santa?

BEA FAGERHOLT: Karen Blixen vase from Akua. A wool coat from Skall Studio. And for my best friend, I am giving the Glow Trio gift set from HONEY .

The best Christmas movie?

LIV WINTHER: It’s a Christmas kliché – but must be Love Actually

Christmas is festive and celebratory - but the beauty routine is always the same. What are your essentials?

LIV WINTHER:  I use Purifying Milky Face Wash to cleanse and restore my skin, nourishing Body Oil, and the glow-boosting Hydra Serum with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in the morning, and our upcoming collagen-boosting A-vitamin serum at night – all from HONEY, along with a little extra help from Mineral Foundation, Baby Cheeks Blush Stick, and Biscuit Face Contour Stick from Westman Atelier.

What self-care strategy do you have to unwind from the pre-Christmas rush or family hustle and bustle?

LIV WINTHER: The love lies in the repetition, and the traditions exist because it binds the family together. But if you feel that you get an increased heart rate and are emotionally exhausted when you get to Christmas Eve, then it may be that you need to adjust your schedule. To calm my nervous system, I do sudarshan kriya breathwork every day. For me it’s like the safety instructions on the plane, “put your oxygen mask on first, before helping others”. I am a better wife, mom, and friend afterwards, and my skin looks more rested.

Personal care do's & dont's in the winter time?

LIV WINTHER: Its all about dosage when it comes to skincare routines in the wintertime. Your skin needs more plant-based oils to seal and protect from moisture loss due to indoor heat. I turn up the dosage of my HONEY Hydra serum, and lock in the moisture with a few drops of HONEY Face oil on top or mix a drop in my liquid foundation. Your skin will thank you with a soft glow.
